Blog EntryA REMARKABLE INCIDENTJan 7, '08 1:19 PM
for everyone

The brief presidency of Idi Dada Amin of Uganda (1976-79) was notable both for the flambouyancy and eccentricity of the dictator and for the brutality of his regime. One of his first acts was to order the closure of all christian churches and many of God's precious people joined the expelled asian business community in their forlorn exodus to the safer more tolerant climes of Britain and Europe.

It was during T.L.Osborn's soulwinners institute seminar in Kisumu, Kenya that a remarkable incident took place. Kisumu is tucked up close to the Uganda border.

President Idi Amin was returning home from an all African leaders summit, and flying over the grounds where T.L.Osborn's meeting was taking place, he looked down and saw the vast multitudes of people gathered and he immediately ordered the pilot of his private dual-prop helicopter to land. He marched on to the platform with his usual bombast and was immediately surrounded by the christian leaders and national pastors. while T.L.Osborn kept control of the meeting, Daisy his wife and co-founder/chair of the Osborn foundation approached the dictator who demanded to know what the meaning was "for all this people to be gathered together on the border of his country." With considerable grace and tact Daisy Osborn explained that the people were gathered to "hear the word of God and to pray."

"That is good" declared the Ugandan leader "that is what I want for my people too, to hear the word of God and to pray." From that very day the persecution of christians stopped in Uganda and once more-by dictat of the president- the churches were opened the normal life and worship resumed. And Uganda has remained open to the gospel to this day.

GO YE INTO ALL THE WORLD AND PREACH THE GOSPEL      upside down The upside down tree .above

Whatever the weather, rain or shine, London's Hyde park is the place to be for christians who want to share their faith, but it is no place for anybody who is sensitive or easily shocked, people are free to say whatever they please and they generally do, I made a fatal mistake there once, I said to a crowd of about 20 hecklers "I don't mind if you mock, you can even spit at me...." and they all did. Some of the people in the photos are dear friends.
